In the past, I always viewed Gregorian music as a bit cheesy, like overdone covers of famous songs dressed in a chant-like style.
I came across Gregorian – Masters of Chant: Chapitre II when we received a donation of music in the mediatheque. I wasn’t particularly excited about it at first, but curiosity led me to press play. And then came "Tears in Heaven."
There was a moment—something clicked. It wasn’t just a cover; it felt different. It touched me on a deeper level than I expected, something I hadn’t experienced with Gregorian music before. I suddenly understood what made this album special. As I listened to each track, I realized the depth of the arrangements, the emotion that seemed to resonate in every note. The familiar songs I thought I knew were transformed into something fresh, something with a new perspective, something that made me feel.
I shared this experience with my daughter one afternoon while we were drawing. The calming, meditative quality of the music created an atmosphere that was both relaxing and inspiring. It was a wonderful moment, where music and creativity seamlessly blended together.
This album, Chapitre II, gave me a new appreciation for Gregorian music. What once felt boring and overdone now feels like an exploration of familiar tunes through a completely different lens. I can honestly say that I now see Gregorian in a new light.
