Another awesome gift from A.—we think it was for Christmas, though we’re not entirely sure. A. believes Mini A. was already with us when she gave it to me, which means it must date back at least to 2021.
I’ve always absolutely loved Moby, and Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? is one of my all-time favorite songs. I remember hearing it as a child on TV—haunting and beautiful—but back then I had no idea who the artist was. Years later, in highschool, I was still thinking about that song. I wanted to find it so badly, but I didn’t know how. Someone told me it was by Moby, but I doubted it because the voice didn’t sound like his. I don’t remember exactly how I finally figured it out when I was an university student, but it was Moby.
From then on, I listened to that song—and many of his others—countless times. But when A. gifted me the full Play album, that’s when everything changed. I listened to the entire album, not just the hits. And what a masterpiece it is.
We’ve listened to it probably a thousand times in the car. It’s one of our go-to driving soundtracks—emotional, atmospheric, perfect for the road.
