CDs were the first music format I ever started collecting. As a child, I remember one album in particular: Luciano Pavarotti & Friends for the Children of Liberia. It wasn’t mine, technically—it belonged to the household—but it was the first original CD we ever had. I listened to it often, drawn in by the voices and the emotion behind the music.
In high school, when I got into metal, I had a friend who burned tons of music CDs for me. They weren’t original, of course, but they fueled my passion and made me want to have my own real albums—with booklets, cover art, and that satisfying click when closing the case.
What was the first original CD I ever bought? That’s a good question. I’m still not sure. Maybe it was Nightwish – The Siren, or maybe Reverend Bizarre – Crush the Insects. I honestly don’t remember. But I do remember the feeling—the excitement and pride of owning music that was truly mine.
